Travel: Flying by the seat of your pants!

Or driving, gliding, hovering, sailing...

There are many ways to get around the Entropia Universe. Of course, Teleports (TPs) are essential and you should attempt to get as many as you can by checking maps and asking other players for co-ordinates.

But some of them are too hard to run, with the mobs and all? Yup. So if you can drive or fly, it will make it easier.

Here's some tips on vehicles and what to do with them.

Travel - Tips and Tricks

So this is what you might be tempted to say... and why it's stupid!

You say:

I've seen a Mothership and they're bad4$$, gonna get me one and travel space.

We say:

When you were talking about crafting Explosive Projectiles we said you'd need a mortgage. If you want a Mothership, be prepared to sell your house. And no, we're not exaggerating. These things are so much money you'll probably cry just looking at the price. If you can afford it... you still won't be able to fly it until you know about space and have the skills.

You say:

Well, at least tell me about space, then?

We say:

Can't you even Google? I'd recommend you look here - it tells you a lot of what you need. Space is PvP (Player versus Player) and that means that pirates can not only shoot you down and kill you, but loot any of your lootables.

You say:

Lootables?

We say:

Not everything in your inventory is lootable by PvP players (known as "pirates" in space, amongst other choice terms).

The only things that can be looted from you are found in the Materials and Minerals sections of your inventory (arrows point to them in the picture). However, if you are carrying storage boxes with these items in, they can also be looted, as can your oil and some (it varies!) pills.

You say:

There's the small matter of my vehicle, and dying, too!

We say:

You've really no sense of adventure, have you? Well, dying means you'll choke in space and then be revived at the nearest space station. No big deal, right? As for your vehicle, it will be returned to your inventory a complete, utter smoking wreck.

You say:

So I'm stranded in space with a burnt-out mass of ex-Quad?

We say:

We wish. No. If you are carring a repair tool such as an RK-5, and some welding wire, you can fix your vehicle.

You say:

So my (L) vehicle is actually UL and Mindark lied?

We say:

No. You can keep it going for a very long time like this, but you will lose TT value if you are damaged (it can't be repaired at the Repair Terminal and get back its TT value). If you want to resell it, that's bad. If you're not bothered and want to keep it, then being shot down is not that much of an issue.

You say:

So what are the best vehicles?

We say:

It's a matter of taste. For overland flight, I personally love my Sleipnir. It's slow, but it's solid, it can go into space (if you put a space thruster on it, and don't mind spending a few years flying the distance from Calypso to Arkadia), it's good on fuel and great for short hops.

You say:

But I want to fly in space... and quicker than that!

We say:

So you said. Several times.

A Quad-Wing Interceptor is the usual choice. It's fast and manoevreable and looks cool. There are other choices. Now pay attention, go away and read this site as we told you to before... and come back when you're done.

You say:

So what's this "repair skilling" I saw on that site? And why did you point me to that particular site?

We say:

So you actually read the site? We're impressed!

"Repair skilling" is where you are accepted as crew on a Mothership, which will go out and find mobs to damage the ship, while you repair it. We pointed you to that site as a few of our members are pilots and/or repair skillers on that ship. There are others. Make your own choice.

You say:

Why would I pay for equipment to fix a ship that's getting deliberately damaged? Are they crazy?

We say:

No they're not crazy, they're kind. Repair skilling gives you the chance to increase your skills at a much more rapid rate than any other way. It's so worth it.

You say:

What skills would increase if I did this?

We say:

Primarily those needed for crafting, although they will help you to be able to pilot a large shapeship if you're lucky. You will get the most skill increase on Vehicle Structural Engineer.
