Mining: We don't need no excavation...

Well yes, we do! But why?
Mining in EU is hugely popular, it's like finding treasure (which you can do on Arkadia, so we're told, but we've yet to find out!). However, many think they'll hit a jackpot and get very disappointed when they don't.

So why do we mine (apart from a slim chance of a huge amount of PED)? More importantly, how do we mine?

Mining - Tips and Tricks
So this is what you might be tempted to say... and why it's stupid!

You say:
I'll bet there's treasure and ores and minerals and stuff and things everywhere! I'm gonna go and blow 1000 probes and strike it rich!

We say:

The only thing you're likely to find mining that way... is poverty. Although it's hard to predict what you might get when you mine, mining smart and mining for what you actually need is the way to go.

You say:

But I just need PED!

We say:

Then you should know what you're mining for. Are you mining to get materials for something you're crafting, or are you mining for a good MU* ore or mineral? Does your mate desperately need Lysterium and he's prepared to offer you 300% (please send him to us, we already love him)?

Find out what you should mine for to get a good return, and then use this information to choose a good location. Random drops will very quickly disappoint you, and make MA very, very happy.

I've just hit the jackpot! Um, but I can't find my claim...

We say:

Yes, you can. First of all, it's likely an "X marks the spot" has appeared on your radar (bottom right of your screen by default) and you can just use that to locate it. If you are still stuck, you can click on the deed in your inventory (it will be in the same tab as your PED card) and "summon claim". That will bring it to you, but you'll have to wait a bit. Just watch out for mobs while you wait?
