Las Vegas? Well yes, crafting is a bit like a slot machine...
We won't get into the debate about Explosive Projectiles blueprints here, but suffice it to say that most of the HoFs in EU come from EP blueprints. Crafting can certainly be a way to hit it big, but you have to invest big and take a huge gamble to get there.

Or you could be sensible, and have a chance of actually doing OK, but slowly.

So this is what you might be tempted to say... and why it's stupid!

You say:
Yep, I'm ready. I'll just go and get the high level Explosive Projectiles Blueprint and I'll make a fortune!

We say:

Are you in the market for a second mortgage, then? High Level blueprints (especially this one) are very expensive. Unless you have the skills to use them and the PED to invest in materials, then you are being unrealistic. Again. What's wrong with you?
You say:
OK, I'm starting from the bottom... but I can't find any blueprints in the Trade Terminal! Do I have to buy my first in Auction?

You didn't do any beginner missions, did you? You need to "talk" to the Technician NPC (white coat) or terminal to get the lowest level blueprints. Others will be on auction.
